We needed a small desk for our study and this desk worked perfectlyI was a bit worried about ordering this desk because of all the reviews showing damage and lack of proper packing. The desk was delivered by Transit By Amazon (as opposed to UPS. I was actually outside when the truck arrived and so was able to open the box and check the corners (which seam to be the most vulnerable parts of the desk. All were perfect and well packed in styrofoam.I got it inside and upstairs... I’m a 57 year old asthmatic overweight mom and I was able to get the desk upstairs by myself... on step at a time. That isn’t to say it is light weight... but it is manageable.I had recently gotten a Stone nd Beam office desk and though the description for that desk said it should only take 15-30 minutes to assemble, it took over 2 hours. By contrast, the Ashley desk was literally about 15 minutes... just attach the logs and it’s ready to go.The Stone and Beam desk is painted white pine and smaller and looks cheaper and legs were already separating. This desk is cheaper, has a keyboard tray, and is much more solidly put together... it looks .ike real furniture as opposed to a cheap desk you got from the unfinished furniture place and spray painted white. The Stone and Beam is the same width (48 inches) but is only 20 inches deep. The Ashley is 29 inches deep which provides a much larger and useful workspace. The Stone and Beam has 2 small lightweight drawers which is useful for stashing pens and pencils... but the Ashley has a keyboard tray for much better ergonomics.I have a very small loft that I’m turning into my home office so I needed a compact work space but also didn’t want a massive solid looking desk that makes the space look cramped. I also wanted something that fits in with the rest of my furniture without looking cheap or disposable. This is perfect. The fact that it is selling for less than the cheapest grade home office desk makes this a no-brainer ... especially since Ashley seems to have improved the packaging to ensure it gets to your house[LCAR]Don’t buy sauder when you can buy this assembled. Already 90% assembled; feet are the only thing you need to put on.It’s an outstanding buy at $749!1. The Desk is aesthetically pleasing. It is perhaps somewhat darker than as featured in the pictures, but is a more like-able darker wood.2. Very easy to assemble, all one would have to do is screw in the legs.3. It seems very likely to arrive broken -- as it did for me. There is a plank of wood that extends the width of the desk in the middle, sitting behind the drawer ( | --- | ). Unfortunately, this plank was broken upon arrival, likely at the fault of the delivery company (UPS). However, the broken part wasn't essential AND desk is heavy and not worth carting up and down flights of stairs more than once. I contacted Amazon and they refunded me a portion of the cost.4. Then two of the legs broke while moving (my own fault). It was fairly easy to contact Ashley Furniture and get two replacement legs ($11/each).5. The desk is very sturdy. However, it's something that should probably be moved with two people lifting it straight up and moving it about, because the bottoms of the legs are hardwood. Therefore, you will likely have to buy felt or something to ensure it doesn't scratch hardwood floor. While this bookcase has the potential to look wonderful, and the assembly is extremely well designed, my experience with this product was anything but pleasant. After 2 months, I finally assembled a functional bookcase with several blemishes. Others have mentioned this, but I will reiterate: if you insist on buying this bookcase after reading this review, DO NOT but from Stores123.I received the bookcase in January 2016 shortly after ordering. When it arrived, the box was destroyed, as well as most of the pieces of the bookcase inside the box. Pieces were broken, chipped, hinges and latches were broken, and one side panel was destroyed. The side panels are attached to the front frame with 4 hinges each – this should make assembly very easy, but one side panel had 2 of the hinges ripped out, taking chunks of wood with them. The side panel was unusable and unable to be repaired. I contacted Stores123, and jumped through hoops, sending them all required documentation, pictures of the full item, the broken pieces, the damaged shipping box, and all the shipping labels, as they ask for in any warranty situation. The customer service representative I talked to sent me the parts list for the bookcase, and said that the manufacturer, Ashley Furniture, would send replacement parts directly from the factory. When the replacement parts arrived, the shipping box was damaged, most of the replacement parts were damaged, and one part was not shipped. I called Stores123 again, they agreed to send all the replacement parts again, and I received broken parts directly from Ashley Furniture, AGAIN. I called Ashley Furniture, and they could not explain why all the parts they were shipping from the factory were arriving damaged. They insisted I deal only with the vendor, Stores123. I called Stores123 again, and they had Ashley ship replacement parts a third time. This time the parts arrived even more damaged than the previous parts. Assembled parts were broken apart, unable to be replaced. Other parts were damaged far beyond use. I called Ashley again to let them know they have a severe problem with shipping their products, and again they told me I could only deal with the vendor. Stores123 only offered to have replacement parts shipped again. After 4 shipments, and nearly 2 months, we finally agreed that enough was enough. I asked for a partial refund, based on refunds I have received from similar circumstances when receiving damaged goods purchased on Amazon.com, and they refused to refund that amount, offering instead a lower amount. At this point I wanted to situation to be resolved, so I reluctantly accepted the amount offered, and assembled the bookcase out of the best pieces I could find in all the replacement parts I have received. Now, almost 2 months to the day after I purchased the bookcase, it is assembled, with many blemishes – scratches, nicks, gouges – but at least I can use it.One major thing to note: replacement parts are NOT pre-drilled, so the ease of assembly is no longer there. If you are not handy, this will not be an easy task. I had to pre-drill and install 12 hinges in total. Assembly with replacement parts took approximately 8 hours, but I would assume if the original had arrived undamaged it would have taken half an hour at the very most. However, based on other reviews I have read, the need for replacement parts seems to be common, so be forewarned.Once again, for your own sanity, if you do choose to buy this bookcase even after reading this, I do not recommend buying through Stores123, and I would stay away from all Signature Design by Ashley Furniture if this is an example of their product quality.
